What do you do with your old kit and equipment? A lot of the time it’s pushed to the back of a cupboard or storeroom where it sits gathering dust… until it’s time for a clear-out and it goes in the bin!

Here at Genesis Teamwear, we donate old kit and accessories to KitAid, an awesome charity that takes unwanted football supplies to kids and adults in developing countries. Together, we’re tackling waste head-on, helping the environment and putting smiles on people’s faces all at the same time.

KitAid was founded in 1998 by footie fan Derrick Williams MBE. Derrick said “The inspiration came about when I was visiting WaterAid development projects in Tanzania and I saw a boy appear, in a tiny remote village, wearing a worn away Liverpool FC shirt.

“I took a photo and once home, showed to friends, and we all said the same thing. We all had shirts and kit in drawers and cupboards that we had either outgrown or replaced.

“We filled one box and WaterAid agreed to send it to the village and we received such a great response we decided we had to continue. What started as a one-off box has developed into 60,000 items of donated kit being shipped out each year.”

“We’ve received a substantial amount of first class, brand new kit from Genesis Teamwear, which has made a massive difference to teams in 40 different countries across the developing world. We’re extremely grateful for their amazing support over the last 10 years.”

You can get that same warm, fuzzy feeling in your heart too, and with KitAid celebrating their 20th anniversary next year there’s no better time to join us by donating your old kit and equipment to help push them over their target of 500,000 donated items!

Our very own Operations Director Alan Hughes added, “We’re urging all our teams and clubs to get involved and help budding footballers in the developing world.

“Donating unwanted kit is such a simple but generous action that makes a huge difference to the people who receive it – passionate players who wouldn’t normally have access to the kit and equipment many of us take for granted.

“KitAid is a fantastic cause that the team here at Genesis Teamwear are proud to support.”
